You Are Invited to Jermaine Sheppard Fund Raiser

by Pastor Walter

Help a friend, share a meal, learn about living with MS. Pastor Walter invites you to come to the aid of a young man that recently has been diagnosed with MS and has no health insurance. Jermaine Sheppard wants to share his story: what it’s like to be told that you have a progressive illness that has no cure.

He and Pastor Walter will talk at a spaghetti fund raiser on Saturday, February 4 at Holy Communion Lutheran Church, 2000 W. Sixth Street. The meal will be served from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., and they will talk at 3:00 p.m. Tickets are $10, available from Pastor Walter or at the door (to reserve tickets please call Jermaine at 939-0005 by January 30), with the money going toward a fund reserved for Jermaine’s medical expenses.

Thank you to Sturino Funeral Home for generously contributing the funds for the meal! Carry outs are also available.

Conversational English Gathers Again

Every Sunday from 10:45 to 11:45, you are invited to meet with our Latino friends who are interested in improving their conversational English.

We began meeting with several Latino folks last winter and found it to be a great experience as we got to know one another and became friends. We are not teaching them to speak English but simply having conversations about our daily lives and experiences.

If you are interested in participating, please join us in the Fireside Room and meet some new friends. If you have questions, please feel free to email Kathy Christensen, or call her at 909-4799.

Emmaus Keenagers

Emmaus' get-together for the "young at heart," Keenagers, meets again on Tuesday, February 21. Claranna Vytlacil will show slides of her vacation in Mexico.

Please come and join us in the Sunset Room for coffee and conversation at 10:00, program at 10:30, and a delicious meal at noon.

Team from Emmaus Packs Food for Haiti

Age made no difference—people ranging from 6 and 7 years old to 60 and 70 years old joined together for the October 13 Food for Kidz pack at the State Fairgrounds in Milwaukee. Seventy-seven people from Emmaus filled two school buses for the event, traveling to pack food to be sent to the people of Haiti.

Donning hairnets and plastic gloves, the kids and adults divided in groups of 6 to 8 people, each forming their own little assembly line. Loud cheers could be heard each time one of the boxes was filled and ready to be sent. The Emmaus group not only gave of their time, but they also contributed $1,000 toward the purchase of food to be used for the packing. Pennies, dimes, and quarters were combined with larger gifts made by Emmaus members and friends for the Haiti food pack.

Scrip Cards Are Available After Services

Thank you to all who have participated in the Scrip fund raising program by purchasing gift cards. We will continue to sell Scrip after services in the Sunset Room throughout the year.

In addition to a variety of cards that we have on hand, we also have a complete list of Scrip gift cards we can order for you. If you have any questions, please contact Cathy Meyer.

In December, Roundy’s Supermarkets, Inc. announced the end of their We Care program. In partnership with Great Lakes Scrip Center, the parent corporation of Pick ’n’ Save has replaced the We Care program with a 4% rebate on purchases using their $25.00 scrip gift card.
